Open Letter To President Bush
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Border Patrol Blitz for 3-11-06

Dear President Bush,

I am watching the Republican Party flounder, and I am worrying about the November election, since I find the Democrats to be downright scary. Do you suppose that, had you taken a serious look at the border situation and responded accordingly, the Republicans would now be in better standing? I do.

It has been obvious that you do NOT want to be the politician who cleans up the mess with our borders, most notably to the south. The drug runners and corruption of the Mexican government, plus the desire on your part to keep the employers here supplied with cheap, exploited labor by illegal immigrants, is not doing you or the Republican Party any favors. We are not stupid, out here, and we know what needs to be done.

I made a small contribution to your '04 campaign. After you were re-elected, members of the RNC were often calling me, looking for more money, of course. I told them "nothing doing - not until the RNC takes the border situation seriously". Well, there still has been nothing substantial done about the problem. It is really disgusting since many of those coming across the border DO pose a threat to the safety of the American, tax paying CITIZENS! (Remember us? We're the ones who elected you!)

I hope that something will soon change, and you will see the porous borders as they are - a real problem to American citizens. There are drug runners, criminals, and gang members coming across as well as the illegal labor force, who do cost us money as well. They cost us (the tax payers) money when they go to the hospital emergency room and when they enroll their children in school. And we are not fooled by your "No Amnesty" amnesty bill, which you call a "Guest Worker" program. Hogwash! Who is going to leave after living here for 6 years? Unmonitored?

I wish I knew which words to use in order to get through to you on this issue. Tom Tancredo gets it. J.D. Hayworth gets it. I certainly wish that you did too.

Letter To Fred Barnes
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Illegal Immigrants

Dear Mr. Barnes,

I was astonished when I heard you say yesterday, that building a fence along the southern border and enforcing our immigration laws was "mean spirited". What decade are you living in, anyway? You do know about the war against terror, right?

Perhaps if you lived in a border state, you would understand. Here, in stupid California, we have LOTS of illegal immigrants. Where do you suppose they go when they get sick? And who pays for it? Where do you suppose they go when they come up here and stay awhile with friends or relatives (we used to live next door to people who did this), waiting to have their "anchor babies"? And who pays for it? And then there is the issue of public schooling. Who pays for educating their children?

And then there are the "sanctuary cities"! This immigration system is a real mess. It wouldn't be, if our laws were enforced but as it is now, with so many politicians sucking up to the Mexicans, plus sucking up to the exploitive employers, it is questionable as to whether this problem will EVER be fixed! I guess it will, once we have another 9/11, this time as a result of our porous borders. Or haven't you heard that members of the MS-13 Gang come up here from South America via Mexico, and that agents of the Mexican government cross our borders and threaten and fire upon our border patrol agents?

Don't bother with the rhetoric regarding this country being built by immigrants. We all know that. We are not anti immigrants, we are anti ILLEGAL immigrants. How much are we, the taxpayers, supposed to absorb for these people? Don't tell me that the illegal immigrants pay taxes too, since I'm guessing that they receive their pay under the table. And they are very much exploited by those employers, receiving much less than minimum wage.

Another favorite argument by illegal entry apologists is that "we can't afford NOT to have illegal immigrants picking the produce, and how the prices would go up at the supermarket if our immigration laws were enforced. I don't believe we can go on forever NOT enforcing our laws, and I would be willing to give it a try and pay the higher prices. I believe that our security and the cost to American taxpayers is more important than the increased prices at the supermarket.

Then there is the ever popular mantra that "Mexicans do jobs Americans won't do". What American who can speak English would take an exploitive, underpaid job in the first place? That is the bigger issue - what the employers can get by with paying these people. I do not believe this serves anyone (except the employers) very well.

I expect such myopic views on this issue from Democrats, who are always pretending to be the friend of the "disenfranchised", thereby creating a dependent constituency and increasing their power base. But I don't expect it from a normally clear thinking conservative. You just must not be very impacted by the problem - yet.

Suffice it to say that I very much hope that Tom Tancredo is our Republican candidate in '08. We desperately need a candidate who understands the threat to our tax paying citizens, as long as we have porous borders and politicians who refuse to EFFECTIVELY deal with this problem.

Open Letter To President Bush
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Border Patrol Blitz - 2-11-06

Dear President Bush,

Here is a quiz for you. Which reason do you find to be the absolute LAMEST, as to why so little is being done about securing our borders?

1. We can't afford NOT to have illegal immigrants in our country, working the fields for exploited, below minimum wage jobs.

2. The economy would collapse if all the Mexicans disappeared from America tomorrow. (What this means I do not know, since securing our borders and having only LEGAL immigrants here is the goal for many of us. I have yet to hear anyone say they want ALL Mexicans to disappear.)

3. It's bigots who are trying to keep "people of color" out of our country, and it has nothing whatever to do with law breakers. (This ridiculous accusation actually throws some people off track and they become defensive!)

4. And my all time favorite - "Family values do not stop at the border", whatever THAT is supposed to mean. I would think that "family values" would include NOT breaking laws and NOT sneaking into this or any other country! But, alas, it seems to be the rest of us who are perceived as being in error on this one. Go figure.

It's turning into an upside down world that we live in. We are wrong and bigoted if we want illegal aliens deported. We are wrong and bigoted if we would like to see the English language continue to be the prevailing language of the land. We are wrong if we think ballots should be printed in English only - the same goes for driver's license booklets and tests. Those who wish to live here should be able to speak, read, and understand English. We are also presumed wrong for expecting assimilation from immigrants, since it is unity that is important, not focusing on our differences.

Of course this is not the way it is. We are perceived as bigots because we think this way, and the liberals are having a field day with their guilt trips on this illegal immigrant topic. And they can get away with saying much more about it and gaining acceptance than their conservative counter parts. I truly DO miss the days of family values. I miss accountability, abiding by the law, and effectively dealing with those who break our laws - the key word here is EFFECTIVELY dealing with them. I also miss the type of respect people used to show one another, along with good manners, in general.

But the world is not like that now. We are supposed to feel sorry for those who are "less fortunate" than we are, never mind if they have created their own circumstances - they need our tax dollars! And those poor illegal immigrants are only trying to improve their lives, so never mind if they are breaking the law, never mind if they are drug dealers, never mind if they are gang members. We must feel sorry for them all and let them in, by looking the other way and establishing "sanctuary cities".

Mr. President, many of your tax paying citizens are really getting sick of this attitude. We truly want to feel safe. We truly want to see our borders properly secured and we are NOT afraid of prices going up at the supermarket. During a war on terror, we think our security comes first. I just wish that you felt that way too.

Open Letters To Senators Feinstein & Kennedy
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Grilling Of Judge Alito

Senator Feinstein,

I just received your January Newsletter and feel that I have no need to go to your web site, in order to "brush up" on the grilling of Judge Alito hearings. Believe me, I have seen and heard enough via FOX News. And it is abundantly apparent to me that you liberals are sweating bullets (so to speak) about the appointment of this distinguished man.

Your accusations regarding Alito being conservative and anti abortion mean very little, as it was very clear to me that he made his previous decisions in accordance with the laws of the land. (I will send you my message to Senator Kennedy, with point #6 being the pertinent one for you, regarding conservatives and liberals being on the bench.)

Again this morning, you mentioned guns and how hard you are working to take them away from responsible, law abiding citizens. You didn't say it that way but that is what you meant, of course, since any rational human being recognizes that criminals don't CARE about laws, whereas responsible law abiders do. Do YOU believe that criminals will turn in any illegal firearms? Or anything else?

And may I say that I find you and Sarah Brady to be among the biggest hypocrites that I have ever seen. You, for having your own concealed weapon, and Sarah Brady, for giving her son a rifle for Christmas a few years back because "that is what he wanted".

So owning guns is okay for you and Sarah Brady's son but not for anyone else. And don't bother with the "not all guns" rhetoric since it is only a matter of time, in your mind. We know that you would confiscate them all (not from criminals of course) if given the chance.

Below is the letter that I sent to Senator Kennedy, during the Day 2 "hearings", especially since he seemed to be so concerned about past actions. I could not believe what I heard him spouting:

Senator Kennedy,

I can't help but notice what "tough questions" you are posing to Judge
Alito. But you have left a few out. I am wondering when I will see the
following:

"Judge Alito,

1. Have you ever been kicked out of school for cheating on final
exams? Explain yourself.

2. Have you ever left a woman submerged in a car for EIGHT HOURS before
being pressured into "reporting" the accident? How much time did you
serve for that? Being a sensitive guy and wondering about your own
INsensitivity regarding the article about AIDS in the '80's, which you
had no part of, of course I would be concerned.

3. Women - do you support women and minorities? I know I go after women
all the time!

4. Do you support a "woman's right to choose"? (That would only be for
abortion, of course. We liberals don't want you making any other
choices without our brilliant guidance. Women and minorities need us!)

5. Have you ever driven without a license, been ticketed for speeding,
and tried to outrun the cops and hide?

6. Vanguard - how many ways can we beat this up until something
sticks? We are really afraid of having a balanced Supreme Court with a
few conservatives on it, and something has just GOT to stick!"

Fine work, Senator Big Dig. Why those citizens of Massachusetts keep
YOU as their senator is a mystery to me. And by the way - I just love
it when you talk about ethics.

Border Patrol Blitz - 1-11-06
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Open Letter To President Bush

Dear President Bush,

I have heard your speeches recently and can never believe my ears when you make reference to "no amnesty" and "guest workers", all in the same sentence, as though it is NOT the same thing. Calling long term residents "guest workers" (as opposed to granting them amnesty outright) does not fool everyone. A three year "guest worker" contract, which can be extended to a 6 year contract, does not sound very temporary to me. But more importantly, who is going to be monitoring these people? There are at least 11 million illegal immigrants in this country now. Is anyone monitoring them? I didn't think so.

I live in California, where I hear that 1/4 of the legal immigrants live, but also where 1/4 of the illegal immigrants live. (That would be 1/4 of the undocumented immigrants who have entered the country illegally, for the semantically impaired. And it is my belief that PC overkill is a semantically impaired problem.) I was listening to a report about this recently and the report is that the immigrants are not leaving the state. So what? How is that any better? And has anyone bothered to check on the numbers of home grown, law abiding taxpayers who are leaving this state? Or are we just too unimportant?

It is my belief that this state is out of control. And I don't think the rest of the states are very far behind! I can't help wondering who will be left to pay for the deadbeats of society, once a large number of taxpayers have left. Has anyone thought about that yet? I will have to pose that question to Governor Schwarzenegger, who is trying to get the state back on track. I just don't think he realized what a battle it would be. This state is a mess!

We, the taxpayers, would like to see some control over our borders and soon! We have watched and waited, hoping that someone with enough power would finally DO something about this mess. And I don't believe that illegal immigrants are "doing jobs Americans won't do". I believe that Americans won't do those jobs at the meager wages offered to, and accepted by, illegal immigrants. And that is not right! I would dearly love to see you truly address THIS issue in one of your future speeches.

We - the law abiding taxpayers who feel we should matter in all of this - are sick of being accused of being bigoted, because we want our borders under control. We are sick of hearing how we would all be brought to our knees if the borders are tightened, and the illegal entries were vastly reduced. We are sick of hearing about produce prices going up at the supermarket, if illegal immigrants are stopped from entering or deported when discovered, as though that is an issue that is more important than our security.

Do you suppose we will ever see the necessary changes made where our borders are concerned during YOUR watch? I would like to think that we would but I fear that we will not. Mr. President, I thought you were a maverick during your first term, willing to buck the tide of the loony liberals. Now, during your second term, you seem afraid of them. Why else would you ignore our border problems? I just hope we do not all live to regret this refusal to deal with the problem. You have recently said in your speeches that problems should be dealt with, not ignored. I surely wish you felt this way about our borders, as well!

Border Patrol Blitz - 12-11-05
Mood:  incredulous

Dear President Bush,

I just heard your speech about immigration (11-28-05). You say you want to "get tough" on tightening our borders and deporting those who have entered our country illegally. Does that go for the 11 million people currently HERE illegally? And if not, why not? I don't buy the "too expensive to deport" line. I believe we cannot afford NOT to enforce our immigration laws.

I often hear you make a reference to your "guest" or "temporary" worker pipe dream, but I have yet to hear how you believe that a program such as this can be SUCCESSFULLY monitored. YOU may believe that these people can be tracked and deported, once their time has run out or they are no longer working, but WE - your constituents - know better.
I also heard you say that you want "guest workers" to be able to get renewable, 3 year permits. That would ensure 6 years here, in our country. Do you really think you will be able to dislodge those people after that amount of time here? And of course, that is assuming that their whereabouts and employment status are even known! So you want to give them huge chunks of time of visitation time, and no deporting of those already here illegally. After 6+ years, my guess is that they will be pretty well established in the U.S., nothing will be done to ever send them back, and amnesty by any other name is still amnesty. (Please don't pull a Clinton and ask what the definition of what "is" is!)

And what about the employers? Does your plan include monitoring the employers too, who are now paying these people under the table and at less than the going rate, for whatever work they are doing, thereby exploiting them? Where is your concern when it comes to this problem? And what about the taxes NOT being paid, by under the table negotiations? Are you at all concerned about that? Being a politician, I would certainly think those lost tax dollars would concern you plenty! You certainly seem to enjoy spending those tax dollars!

What we need to do is to secure the borders first, and then perhaps we can consider the "guest worker program", which you are so fond of touting. I do not believe, by the way, that the illegal immigrants are "doing jobs Americans won't do". I believe they are doing jobs that Americans won't do at the exploited, low paying rates that the employers are getting by with paying them now. So obviously, cracking down on the employers is an important aspect of this process and something that at least Tom Tancredo understands. (I certainly hope he will be in the running for the next presidential election - we need him!)

But apparently you are planning on giving the employers a free ride since you said they (the employers) don't want to be acting as FBI agents or, in other words, checking on their underpaid and exploited employees. So I guess nothing will change, with that approach. And that is why we need to change leaders every few years. We need new blood every so often so that we, the people, will at least have the HOPE for change.

Also, what are you going to do about "sanctuary cities"? Those would be the cities whose "managers" have decided to flaunt the federal government and REFUSE to do anything but embrace illegal aliens. Are those cities going to be allowed to go about their business unhindered by such nuisance details as FEDERAL LAWS?

We still need a fence to help thwart the drug dealers. Are they going to care if they are here legally? Is a guest worker program going to mean anything to them? They and potential terrorists are having very little trouble crossing the border now and do not care what is legal or illegal. And that is why we need the fence, and whatever else it takes, to cut back on the number of illegal entries. Obviously it is impossible to stop ALL illegal entry but we want to enhance the numbers of those who are being stopped from entering illegally now.

In short, we need to:

ENFORCE - Enforce (or reinforce) our borders to prevent illegal entry.
DEPORT - Deport those who have entered the country illegally and are discovered.
ABORT - Crack down on employers who are more than happy to hire illegal aliens and pay them low wages, thereby exploiting them.

Many of your constituents know just how serious this border situation is. It would appear that you do not believe that we do. Many of us are paying attention and we know what "amnesty" means, no matter what you want to call it. We are paying close attention and if terrorists ever cross the border via Mexico and cause serious damage, the fallout from such an event will be deafening. Then, nearly everyone will be paying attention. And maybe then we can get some serious results.

Open Letter To President Bush
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Border Patrol Beef Up Needed

Dear President Bush,

I understand you are STILL - in spite of your "tighten the borders" speech - trying to advance your "Guest Worker" program with Mexico, as if we could possibly monitor such a situation. I don't know if YOU have noticed but we cannot monitor all the illegal aliens who are here now! How in the world are we going to keep track of "guest workers" and make sure they go home when they are no longer working? I believe that we should get our borders under control first. Then - and ONLY then - should we be considering letting aliens in to work, then making sure they go home when they are not working. This mess is costing us Californians a bundle!

In any case, I and many people like me are sick of the current, namby pamby approach to border control. If this were not true, we would not have the Minutemen! I don't care if the price of produce does go up, without illegal aliens here to pick it. I don't care if wine and table grapes go up in price too! I am really sick of the half hearted efforts that I see, to secure our borders. I, and many people like me, want to have REAL homeland security and that includes securing our borders.

My new slogan:
ENFORCE - Enforce (or reinforce) our borders to prevent illegal entry.
DEPORT - Deport those who have entered the country illegally and are discovered.
ABORT - Crack down on employers who are more than happy to hire illegal aliens and pay them low wages, thereby exploiting them. Is there anyone who is properly served by this practice?

I voted for President Reagan and I thought he did a lot of good things. But I thought he was way off base with his "one time good deal", making all illegals in the country at that time suddenly legal, after waiving the "I can't deal with it" magic wand. What a terrible message to send! I thought so then and I think so now. It in essence said, "we don't care about our laws either"! And now look at the mess we've got. I keep hearing that there are more ILLEGAL aliens entering the country now than LEGAL aliens. Good job!

You still have time to fix this mess. I really, really wish you would do it. And if you don't, I really, really hope we will have the choice of a candidate in '08 who WILL fix it! Something just has to be done.

Letter To President Bush
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Weak Borders & Terrorism

Dear President Bush,

It appears that politicians are not going to be able to ignore the border problems much longer, which is a great relief to many Americans, I can tell you. Of course we are the American, tax paying citizens who are relieved to see governors of border states trying to actually DO something about the problem now. I think calling a state of emergency is quite reasonable and believable, as Gov. Napolitano has done.

Many of us find the out-of-control crossing to be very worrisome. Not only does it cost us a lot of money with ER visits by illegals, and the need for more agents AND fencing on the border, but there is always the possibility that terrorists can easily cross. By terrorists, I am referring to the 9/11 variety. Then there are the small potato terrorists, smuggling drugs, and doing whatever, once they get here. It seems to me that we have been hearing about more kidnappings and sex crimes being committed by illegal immigrants lately. I don't know if that is because it is reported more now or because there just ARE more illegal immigrants coming into this country all the time. I suspect it is the latter.

I have concluded that, barring a big catastrophe happening at the border or as a result of easy illegal entrance and which is impossible to ignore, you will not be addressing border issues on your watch, which greatly disappoints me. I am desperately hoping that we will have more of a choice about this, during the next presidential election. I am hoping that at least ONE of the candidates will give a rip about this growing problem. And I would love to see Tom Tancredo run, having proven that he is not afraid to go against the PC crowd, and having shown that he is one of the few politicians willing to address this problem. We can only hope and pray that some huge disaster does not occur before then, since it appears that almost no one in DC is paying attention.

Letter To President Bush
Now Playing: Borders & Hurricane Katrina

Dear President Bush,

I know you are very preoccupied right now, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but here it is - 9/11/05. It has been exactly one year since I wrote my first Border Patrol Blitz letter and not much has changed. It is so disheartening.

If I were a terrorist I would be watching U.S. current events very closely, right now. I would be watching the scramble and chaos that has followed Katrina. I would be watching the blaming. I would be watching how easy it is to bring a lot of Americans to their knees, whining the whole time about the government's failure to save them and take care of them. (Mistake #1, if you ask me!). Yes, if I were a terrorist I would be watching . . . . . . . watching and planning. What a perfect time for another attack on the U.S.! And the borders are getting very little attention right now - what a perfect time and way to sneak into this country.

I hope this will not be the case but, with so many politicians ignoring the illegal immigration problem - and in some cases aiding and abetting it - it could certainly happen. To a lesser degree, such invasions are happening already. Surely you have heard that many illegals come here, commit crimes, and either become guests of the taxpayers, or run back across the border, Scot free.

Just as it took Katrina to make the powers that be in New Orleans realize that the levees need attention, I hope it will NOT take a horrific event, resulting from the profound failure to secure our borders, to convince the politicians to finally DO something about it. I hope we won't experience a huge catastrophe from poor border control, but I fear that we will.

Open Letter To President Bush
Mood:  incredulous
Now Playing: Voting For Border Control

Dear President Bush,

In the wake of the tragic bombings in London, we are hearing all of the usual rhetoric: The Americans brought it on themselves (9-11), due to arrogance; and the war in Iraq is/isn't (depending on one's point of view) as a result of 9-11, and therefore justified.

The loony left, of course, does not think there IS such a thing as a war worth fighting. I believe there is when there is something worth fighting for, such as our freedom. It remains to be seen how this war in Iraq will play out. I fear that the Iraqis do not want freedom enough to really fight for it. And it will be tragic if another Hussein gains power over there again.

But those of us who believe freedom is not free, don't understand your tenacity when it comes to Iraq, while blithely ignoring our porous borders, both north and south. It is my belief that you will live to regret this rather HUGE failure to acknowledge this problem, and I think you will be lucky to get out of office, before some new calamity befalls us.

I believe we have already seen such calamities in the form of Mexican nationals coming to our country, committing crimes, then running back to Mexico. It is becoming a big problem. And I suppose that, until such time that someone you love is the one being attacked and/or killed, you will continue to ignore the problem.

The next presidential election should really be interesting. I plan on voting for whomever shows an understanding of AND a willingness to do something about our borders. I am hoping that Tom Tancredo is interested in the job. He is one of the very few politicians with enough gumption to address this issue. I guess all is not lost, if he is willing to run.

I stopped contributing to the Republican Party when it became clear to me that you plan on NEVER addressing this issue. Maybe I will contribute directly to Tancredo's campaign fund, since I am losing faith in the Republicans in general - they are as scared of this issue as the loony left is.
